Spay Memphis utilizes the most up to date and most recommended surgical techniques.
- For female pets, this is a complete ovariohysterectomy, meaning the uterus and ovaries are removed surgically through an abdominal incision. Female pet incisions are sutured internally and glued on the outside of the incision.
- For male pets, we perform a scrotal neuter surgery, meaning the testicles are removed through an incision(s) on the scrotum and the empty scrotum remains. This scrotal neuter approach is shown to require less time under anesthesia, allow for smaller incisions, and less tissue manipulation. The scrotal incision is left open to allow for drainage and less swelling.
- For male pets that are cryptorchid (one or both testicles have not descended), the undescended testicle(s) are surgically removed where they are located (typically abdominal or inguinal). Please note: male pets must be at least 6 months old if cryptorchid and if both testicles are undescended, an ultrasound at your full service veterinary clinic may be required prior to visiting our clinic.
